Making Art Together is the New Quality Time

You can create art.

Even if you draw a line and a circle on a piece of paper, that's art.

What makes that line and circle even more special is creating those shapes with your child or any loved one right next to you.

That line and circle become a precious memory when it's done with someone you love.

The beauty of making art is making art with someone you love.

I recently bought one of those adult coloring books with flowers.

I bought it to learn how to draw flowers.

So one evening my youngest daughter and I were watercoloring.  I looked over at her watercoloring and thought hey why don't I do the same thing (that she is doing).

She simply made watercolored lines.  I loved it.

My lines ended up more of a blotch.

We let the watercoloring pictures dry overnight.

The next day I used a sharpie and drew a poppy over the dried watercolor blotch that I made.

Turned out to be pretty unique.

I used PicMonkey to add a little more uniqueness to it!

What have you made lately?

Let me know in the comment section below.

Make Art After Church

Hey Everyone!

Can you believe tomorrow is September?

Time waits for no one.

...and time has flown by this year.

Today for this post, I want to share with you one of the activities that I sometimes do after church.

One of the things that I used to do with my daughters after church when they were younger was to bring their little sketch pads and colored pencils to a local park.  We would sit on a blanket and draw whatever we saw in nature.

And recently, we took our youngest (the last in the nest) to a nearby lake after church and we water colored.

Yep, we water colored our view.

Just a little simple relaxation thing that we do after church sometimes.

Do you have any after church activities that you do or that you do with your family and children?

Let me know in the comment section below!

The times that we live in...

We are living in perilous times.

Below you will find a few sites to help you understand the times that we are living in.

These sites have been very helpful to me and it is my hope that you will find them helpful as well.

Amazing Facts

Power of the Lamb

Audio Verse

Little Light Studios

Media on the Brain

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. -Acts 17:11

A Quiet Space in your Home

You should create a quiet space to know God.

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
-Psalm 46:10

This world can pretty much drown out any knowledge of the Holy.

Every day is a gift from God.

A quiet place reassures you that He lives.  A quiet place also reassures you that God cares about you personally.

You can create a quiet space anywhere in your home.  Whether you live in an apartment, studio or living with a relative, creating a space of solitude can be rejuvenation for your life.

Here are a few ways to create simple quiet spaces:

1.  Your night table can serve as a quiet space right next to your bed.  .You could simply add a Bible and a few inspirational books as well as pen and paper for notes.  When you awake in the morning, you are already in your quiet space!

2. Your patio can also serve as a quiet space.  Nature is a wonderful place to be when you want to get quiet and a patio is usually outside.  Adding a few plants and a small table for your Bible and a few books will lend to a peaceful place.

3.  A chair in the den can also serve as a quiet space.  The thing about using a family den is getting in the space early in the morning before anyone else gets up.

4.  The breakfast table or the dining room can also be used as a place to retreat to to have a few moments of solitude.

5.  Dad or mom's office can turn into a quiet space. Sometimes the family office works as a good quiet space...you just have to turn off all the computers and gadgets and stuff.

And here are a few verses to encourage you to seek the Lord and gain a knowledge of the Holy:

And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord,...-2 Chronicles 20:3

And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee. -Psalm 9:10

The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. -Psalm 14:2

When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek. -Psalm 27:8

When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek. -Psalm 27:8

As Christians, Christ leaves us this example from His own life in the book of Mark:

And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.- Mark 1:35

Painting on wood...

If you hear a voice within you say 'you cannot paint,' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced. -Vincent Van Gogh
What's going on? Well, as for us over here we have just been homeschooling, traveling and creating stuff!

I just realized that it has been five months since blogging at this space.  I must say that I do feel more artistic since being away from this space. I also want to encourage my youngest daughter to be more creative as well.

I post a lot here about what's going on in my crochet life but want to get back into posting about other artistic things like painting, hand-lettering and drawing.

One of the things that I do to encourage artistic expression in my youngest daughter is painting. She likes to paint.

So sometimes when I am at Michael's or any other craft store, I pick up those little wooden shapes. They are like a dollar.  They usually come in animal shapes or hearts or flowers.

The wooden shapes are great for art projects or something to do in between studies.
They even have birdhouses and sometimes we paint those too!

Do you paint? What kind of things do you buy for your children to paint?
